HAHBAT - I Almost Forgot

So as you can all tell I almost forgot to do my post for this blog hop... But I suppose the old adage better late than never fits my situation. I won't go on about why I forgot just say if you want to know just read some of my previous posts.

Okay, now onto my post for this amazing blog... At this stage in my life i don't have a clue what I'm going to write about so I will go with the faithful rambling technique I've used in past years. I figure if it ain't broken then go with the flow.

The other day I was sitting at the local mall in the next city over - the kids were shopping and I was happy to sit with my kindle and read. In the end I got side tracked by people watching (come on I know I'm not the only one who participates in this activity)

Sitting across the way was this young same sex couple and I thought it was sweet the way they didn't seem to care about being in public as they sat together and cuddled in one of the chairs. I didn't see a problem with it at all. That was until other people started to comment and at first I was shocked, and then I was down right pissed, until in the end I spoke up and let them have it. Not the couple but all the bigoted arseholes that had decided they had the right to try and demean the younger couple.

The writer in me saw nothing wrong with the same sex affection. The mum in me wanted to defend the younger couple while the human in me decided to take control and tell people to shut the fuck up. At the time I was so sure I was right and stood up for my beliefs. Even though the younger couple thanked me and told me it's not the worst they have endured though really the bigotry is far and few between... The weird part is when I finally introduced myself they had actually read some of my work... Don't get me wrong, I was tickled pink, but so used to being a nobody that I was weirded out a bit.

Later on when I was at home I started to wonder if what I did was right. Should I have butted in and blew my stack at the rude strangers? Does that make me just like all of them. wasn't I trying to push my own beliefs onto them. After having an internal debate that lasted hours I thought FUCK IT!!! You know what, if I'm ever faced with the same situation. I know I'll do everything exactly the same way because I believe in EQUALITY. I believe just because you are wired to be a certain way when it comes to love, then who am I or anyone else to tell you it's wrong. It wasn't so long ago then interracial was frowned up - actually it probably still is in some places. Seriously I just want to kick the collective world up it's arse and tell everyone to wake up to them selves.

IF YOU CAN'T SAY ANYTHING NICE, THEN SHUT THE FUCK UP.

  3. i think it would depend if you were *actually* pushing your ideas on others, or where you tynig to make adults act like effing adults. there's a difference between pushing and making people realise what they are doing is rude

  4. I don't think it was wrong of you to do something like that. You stood up for what you believed in and the couple themselves thanked you. There is that saying that "if you have nothing nice to say than don't say it" and "you should treat people you want to be treated" so you just did exactly that. Nothing wrong with it at all.

If I was lucky enough to win I would like Boys From the Bush in EPUB format.

  10. Thank you for the post and being part of the hop. I would have had a hard time confronting the rude people, but I know I would have too and then worried later about it like you did. But you're right, you did the right thing. If you can't say something nice, don't say anything is simple. Making comments like those people is, at a minimum, bullying them to act differently, which is ridiculous. The couple did nothing wrong.

I follow you. I would love a copy of Heart-mate, Mine! in mobi or prc format.

  11. I liked that story, and I really think you did the right thing. Trying to do right by young adults (teenagers) is always chancy. They kind of live in a constant state of embarrassment mixed with moments of inflated self-importance. It's a lovely paradox that's totally developmentally appropriate and a no-win situation most of the time for adults.

But having said that, I think defending that couple from bullies has to be the only right response. Even if it turned out that they were angry at you or further embarrassed, they would get over it, and dollars to donuts, been thankful in the end. I know I would have been if I were in their shoes. :)

  12. I have no problem to people objecting to PDAs...as long as they object to PDAs from everyone equally. Sometimes I really would prefer to eat my lunch or wait for my plane without having to watch or listen to people go at it...but that's not based on pairing.

I posted a while ago (satire of all the anti-LGBT PDA comments) that I have no problem with people being heterosexual, but do they have to shove their agenda down everyone's throats by kissing in public? It got quite a few laughs. I think we'd all do better to step back and realize our hypocrisy. :)

  13. Hi N.J. thank you for being part of this blog hop against the very behaviour you witnessed before this young couple. I do understand your concerns with admonishing the bigots and maybe they will never learn, but you made a young couple feel more people are not against them. I also follow your blog and, if I am a lucky winner, then I would love to read Gateway to Kalethia (The Diamond Rose) in mobi format if possible. I just love that beautiful Serval cat on the cover and I also love paranormal stories, so thank you also for a chance to win a copy :)
