NOW TODAY IS:
Blurb:
Braden Porter and Vince Guiterrez have been a couple for nearly a year. But because of Braden's fear of being outed, their relationship has moved slowly. Too slowly for Vince. Braden knows that if he doesn't take the next step and ask Vince to move in with him, he might lose Vince for good. A chance encounter during a towing job to Boston helps Braden make his decision, but will he dare tell Vince his choice?
Excerpt:
If Vince was a girl, we would have already been living together, probably, if what my buddies had done was any indication. Most of them had shacked up with their high school sweethearts as soon as graduations was over. Some of them even had the whole"two kids and a picket fence" thing going on. But Vince wasn't a girl, and neither was I, and it made things complicated as hell.
"You're thinking too much," he said. "Maybe I should go home."
"No." Before I could stop myself, I wrapped my arms around him and held him tight. Being paranoid wasn't enough reason to take a chance losing him. "Stay, please."
He tensed but didn't make me let go of him. "Why am I staying, Braden? So we can fuck? Not that I mind the idea, but if you're using it to get out of talking to me, I won't be happy."
"Yeah, I don't mind the idea of fucking you either, but it isn't why." I lay us down again so I could snuggle right up against him.
"Why then?"
I took a deep breath. I really had no clue what I was about to say. "I love you. I don't want you to go. Look, I get that you don't have anywhere to live after this week. Obviously I don't want you out on the street, and there aren't a hell of a lot of places to rent here in town."
"Farmington's just down the road," he said. "Skowhegan isn't much farther. Norridgwock. All those laces have apartments. Of course, in Farmington I'd have to deal with all the university kids and their partying."
"Yeah." Some of those college guys were pretty hot and about my age, early twenties. I definitely didn't want Vince living with them. One of them might catch his eye, and we'd be done.
Did I mention I was Paranoid?
"I don't want you out of town," I said. "then it would be even harder to get together. I need to think, Vince, that's all."
"You think too much." He kissed my forehead. "All the time, you think too much."
"Yeah, I do." I snuggled even tighter against him. "We won't be just roommates if you move in."
"Hell no."
"So I have to make sure I'm ready to handle it." I swallowed a lump that showed up in my throat. "It's a big deal to me, okay? I've never lived with anyone, never even thought about it. Just like I never had a relationship before you. I don't want to fuck it up."
"Living together takes work," he said. "Just like being in a relationship. As long as we're willing to do the work, we'll be okay, but I get what you're saying. I can't give you a lot of time to think about it, Braden. I have to know if I'm moving here or what, and I don't want to find out the night before I get kicked out."
"I'm going to Boston tomorrow. It'll give me time to think. I can let you know tomorrow night." I had no clue if I'd be able to make that kind of decision so fast. I just knew I had to try.
He nodded. "Okay. I'm going to hold you to that."
